Are Fruits Killing Us? An Unpopular Opinion

Fruits… dry, fresh, juicy, cold, sour, sweet and delicious. Nobody hates them, at least when one is hungry enough to get the hunger pangs. They provide us with a quick boost of energy and with the vital vitamins we essentially need on daily basis. So, as we see fruits don’t seem dangerous. They seem to be innocent, harmless and instant friends in hunger.

But, can fruits be evil? Can they be unsafe enough to lead us to hospitalization, life threatening condition or even death. In a way, YES! Follow me through the article to know why.

Ripening Agents And Polishing

Beyond a certain limit these substances used may have serious life risks. Although banned in many counteries but Calcium Carbide is a chemical widely used for fruit ripening. Ethylene and ethyphone are also used. They may cause throat infections, stomach problems, miscarraiges and ulcers. Although non- toxic in limit, fruit polishes like shellac carnauba wax and bees wax may accumulate in intestines.

Cherry Pits

The hard cherry seeds if ingested whole may pass out of body harmlessly. If crushed or open pits taken excessively may be poisonous as it contains prussic acid or cyanide. Cherrys on a whole contain excess amount of sugar and may make you bloated and is difficult to digest.

Apple Seeds

Apple seeds if eaten contain a coating which makes them harmless, but they also contain cyanide, so better to avoid them as they may cause breathing difficulties, seizures, poisoning or even death in excessive amounts.

Bitter Almonds

Bitter almonds contain higher amygdalin levels than sweet ones, which may turn into cyanide. Eating untreated bitter almonds can cause cramps, nausea, and diarrhea.

Raw Cashews

Raw Cashews in stores aren’t raw actually. They are steamed before packing. Eating unsteamed cashews which contain urushiol, a toxic substance may initiate svere allergic reactions.

Mangoes

the skin, bark, and leaves of mangoes contain toxic substance, urushiol. Biting a mango can cause a severe reaction with swelling, rash, and even problems breathing. In addition, they contain high amount of sugar approximately, 23 grams in one cup of mango, making them less good for diabetics.

Limes

Limes contain furocoumarin, which reacts with sunlight. Sitting in a sun and eating it, it gets absorbed into the skin, and cause burns, blisters, and dark patches.

Oranges

According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, oranges are so acidic to damage the teeth. Orange juice has found to be damaging to tooth enameling, hardness and shine just as sugary sodas. So better use a straw for its juice.
